A Miss Piggy clock is an undusted keepsake kept close by in my studio. It belonged to my daughter Marci. In 2009 the clock provoked a search for past photographs of her. Thirty three years prior she was killed in a tragic car accident at the age of four. It was profound to see how faded the images had become. Recalling those poignant moments from a precious life so long ago buried was difficult and cathartic. This series renewed a narrative about grace, loss, forgiveness, and elements of the human condition. Revisiting these photographs was the impetus to a fresh and deeper understanding of my love for portraiture.
In painting the portrait, through every stare, line, gesture, and shadow, the weight of life persists.
